Councilwoman Marianna Keesee
District 1

Welcome to the City of Tifton Web site! I’m Marianna G. Keesee, elected in January 24, 2007 to the City Council. I was born and raised in Tifton and was a teacher and administrator for 34 years in Tift County. My years of living in this City have made me aware of its continued economic growth, and I am proud to see it emerge as an educational, agricultural, and medical center for South Georgia.

I pledged to my constituents in District 1 to offer “a new voice” to the City Council. I solicit citizens’ input on matters coming before the Council and making our government open and accessible to the people. You can get no closer to government that affects you than your local government officials. I am especially interested in the following:

  • Well Planned Land Use
  • The Economic Welfare of the City and County
  • Providing a Business Friendly City
  • Beautification and Promoting the Cultural Life of our City

I believe that government is FOR the people. I am grateful for the opportunity to work for a better Tifton, and as the newest Council member, am busy working with staff on concerns of citizens that I noted while campaigning. I am also studying ordinances, inter-local agreements, policies, and funding sources to make our City even better. As I learn more about other cities in Georgia, I am increasingly pleased with the comparison that Tifton stacks up with the very best !

Councilman Chris Parrott
District 2

Hello,

I’m proud to be a member of our great community and proud to represent you as District 2’s Councilman.

Tifton is blessed to have so many resources.   Interstate, major State routes and an excellent rail utility; to attract and grow our local economy.  Businesses and individuals have to operate differently in 2012, and our City is no exception; we must move and change our business methods to provide excellent service to the City’s Citizens at the lowest cost.

My top priorities are getting the City financially sound, growing businesses and being business friendly and growing jobs in our community.    We have to first make sure our “house” is in order financially and then work to strengthen programs aimed at helping our local business grow.  Growing jobs and helping businesses create jobs is paramount to the stability of a community.

We all love our community; and I will do my best to fight for what is right, ethical and financially sound for District 2 and all of Tifton.   If I can ever be of service, please don’t hesitate to call or email.

Highest regards,

Chris

Councilwoman Julie Smith
District 4

Welcome to our web site! Let me share with you some of Tiftons’ attributes and how the City Council is working to assure that we become even better in the future.

Strategically located as a transportation crossroads in south central Georgia, Tifton is long noted for its strong agricultural base and internationally recognized agricultural research and education center. However, we have numerous other qualities with a diverse industrial/business base, high quality and accessible human services, and abundant natural resources. The City Council and Management are combining progressive planning and development strategies with wise stewardship practices to assure long-term quality-of-life and employment benefits for our citizens and outstanding services for those who visit, shop, or otherwise conduct business with us.

Historically rooted in family and neighborhood values, Tifton offers the very best in community life, including excellence in education, recreation, spiritual development, cultural/art experiences, shopping, dining, healthcare, and police/ fire protection. We aggressively recruit highly desired industries, businesses, and institutions, staff them with the best talent from throughout the world, and equip them with the latest in technologies. Newcomers, are readily welcomed into the social and professional fabric of our community, and tourists and visitors from worldwide are greeted with hospitality in keeping with our “The Friendly City” logo. Yet, we carefully exercise forward thinking land-use patterns, ordinances, and other tools to protect our valuable natural resources and preserve the flavor and charm of our historical and cultural assets. That is how we effectively support and gracefully intertwine:

  • A world-class agricultural research and education/ conference center with a living history museum showcasing our agrarian heritage
  • A bustling historic residential and downtown business district, along with a busy interstate with a prospering string of franchise-based motels and restaurants
  • Two expanding industrial parks housing a diverse range of major manufacturing and distribution centers, equipped with high quality water/sewer, natural gas, waste management, and telecommunications services, with environmentally sound air and water quality
  • A modern medical/ healthcare hub centered in attractive residential and business neighborhoods, including “intercity” parks and recreation areas
  • Our citizens own, through their City, a “state-of-the-art” fiber optic telecommunications system, a comprehensive natural gas system, high-quality water/ sewer system, and jointly with the County, a modern waste management/ landfill system, all without a property tax increase in well over 10 years.
  • Your City Council is committed to combining the best of our past with the best of today as we chart our course for the future.

Thank you for the opportunity to be your representative for District 4 and the entire City of Tifton.
