Criminal Investigation Division

The Criminal Investigation Division conducts criminal investigations that the Tifton Police Department undertakes. Detective Lt. Porter Jackson, Detective Bryan Cavenaugh, Detective Shane Benefield, Detective Lee Dustun, Detective Len Moore compose the Criminal Investigation Division.

The primary function of Criminal Investigations Division is to conduct follow-up investigations of reported crimes. These investigations consist of interviewing suspects, victims, and witnesses, analyzing information for validity, reliability, and accuracy, and compiling a comprehensive and factual case file to be presented  in court. Other investigations are initiated as a result of information received from outside sources, such as police informants and other law enforcement agencies. Investigators are selected through a formal process and receive additional investigative training as a result of their assignment.

Citizens who call the Detective Divison are greeted by Investigation Secretary Dawn Franklin, who will gather their information and refer them to the appropriate investigator.
