Patrol Division Mission

The Patrol Division will provide, with cooperation from the public and a unified effort of all divisions of the Police Department, effective and efficient protection of life, individual liberty, and property of all people within the City of Tifton.

The vision of the Patrol Division is to provide the mission accomplishment with a high degree of crime reduction and accident prevention and the appropriate investigation and apprehension of offender.

Tifton Police Patrol Division consist of 34 officers divided into four shifts. Each shift has a shift a total of eight members – a supervisor with either the rank of Captain or Lieutenant, a Sergeant, a Traffic Officer, and five Patrol Officers. the most visible group of the Police Department.

These dedicated men and women patrol the streets of Tifton 24 hours a day, seven days a week and respond to all emergency and non-emergency calls for service. From traffic control to gathering evidence for your residential burglary, the Patrol Division is the front line unit in the fight against crime. Their dedication and commitment to protecting the citizens of Tifton is unmatched and is a continuing “Mission” for all members.

School Resource Officer Program

Tifton Police Department’s School Resource Program was formed in 1993 by Chief James Smith. The program began with two school resource officers; Officer Toni Gann at the Tift County High School, and Sergeant Lester Cromer at the Tift County Junior High School. The program currently has four officers: Sgt. Toni Gann, Sgt. Lester Cromer, Officer Torrie Adams, and Officer Greg Daughtrey.

The goals of the School Resource Officers are:
1. To promote good citizenship among students, staff, and law enforcement officers.
2. Foster an attitude of respect for the personal property rights of others.
3. Cultivate among students and staff members a spirit of law observance, while safeguarding their moral and physical welfare.
4. Protect the physical property of the Tift County School Board of Education.

The primary responsibilities of the School Resource Officers are:
1. To be an extension of the principal’s office or any such duties assigned by the principal or Chief of Police in order to maintain safety and security of the school and campus.
2. To be a classroom source for law education and a resource for students, parents, and teachers.
3. On a daily basis, School Resource Officers are to monitor the hallways, restrooms, cafeteria, and parking lots.
4. Supervise the students’ extracurricular activities and trips on school related functions.

The School Resource Officer is not a school disciplinarian, but is first and foremost a law enforcement officer and is to be notified in the event of a state law or city ordinance violation. They may also be notified upon any questions that one might have.

The patrol division and school resource officers are charged with the duties of protecting the lives and property of the citizen, thereby enforcing federal laws, state laws, and local ordinances, serving the citizens when called upon by the citizens of Tifton.
