The City of Tifton Police Department is currently recruiting certified and non-certified candidates for the position of police officers. The Tifton Police Department consists of 51 sworn full-time officers, allowing the capability of providing our city with the best possible safety.

Hiring ProcessThe hiring process for the Tifton Police Department consists of a series of comprehensive interviews and screenings designed to narrow the field of applicants and to advance only those who are most qualified.   During the hiring process, applicants are subjected to such terms and conditions as stated on the application regarding background history.
The initial interview is held before a panel that consists of Tifton Police Officers. The interview is then scored, and those ranking high enough will continue on to extensive background screening. Qualifying candidates will then be scheduled to take a polygraph exam and an aptitude test. Once a candidate has successfully completed the interview, polygraph, and aptitude test, the candidate may be eligible for a conditional offer of employment before being sent for physical/drug screen and physical agility and firearms qualification. During the physical agility test and firearms qualification, the candidate must successfully complete the course in an allotted amount of time and fire two qualifying scores with a department issued firearm.

Police Officer Duties & Responsibilities:
 
Tifton Police Officers perform a wide range of tasks to promote public safety and community security for our citizens.  This includes, but is not limited to: assuring protection of people and property, patrolling assigned geographic area of the city, responding to calls for service including domestic disputes, assaults, burglaries, traffic accidents, and other conducting preliminary inquiries, field interviews, and follow-up investigations.

To apply all applicants must meet the following requirements:
  1. Must be a Georgia Post Certified Police Officer or capable of becoming certified;
  2. Must be at least 19 years of age;
  3. Must be a citizen of the United States;
  4. Must have a  valid Georgia Driver’s License;
  5. Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent;  
  6. Must have Official COMPASS scores (Passing scores are: Reading 70, Writing 32)
  7. Must be able to work 12 hours shifts, including both day and nightshifts when required.
  8. Must NOT have any Felony conviction(s) or a Criminal Record that indicates a disregard for the law.
Applicants must complete the following:
  1. Successfully pass the Extensive Background Check.
  2. Successfully pass the Oral Interview Board.
  3. Successfully pass the Polygraph Examination.
  4. Successfully pass the Psychological Evaluation.
  5. Successfully pass the Physical and Drug Screen.
  6. Successfully pass the Department Physical Agility Test.
  7. Successfully qualify with a Department approved firearm.
