HISTORY
OF THE TIFT
In 1937, Hollywood came to Tifton.
In February of '37, the Tift opened with its premier
performance of "Pennies From Heaven".
For the next 50 years, the theatre delighted Tifton
with stars of the silver screen in blockbuster
releases. The theatre saw three wars come and go
before it went dark in 1987.

The
community rallied to support the effort to refurbish the
historic Tift Theatre. Many were nostalgic for the
theatre, others realized the significance the Arts could
play in the community, but no matter what the reason, the
community was a strong impetus in mobilizing this effort.
Private citizens and businesses donated
one-third of the funds needed to refurbish the building,
not to mention the countless hours of time spent cleaning
the facility, finally culminating in a gala fundraising
grand-opener, sponsored by Tifton's Olympic committee -
Focus on the Flame, to inaugurate the theatre.
The 621 seat theatre
has been restored to its original beauty, down to the circus
themed wall accents, originally created by a Ringling Brothers
artist.With our technical capabilities,
the theatre has the capacity to host conferences, plays, musicals,
concerts, and dance performances, not to mention special events. We
are committed to providing quality area. The theatre
can handle any event, no matter how large or small, local to
international. |
