The City of Tifton Planning Division is responsible for guiding and regulating the City’s long- and short-term development. This includes the comprehensive planning process, which establishes recommendations to effectively guide residential and commercial development for the benefit of current and future residents. Included within the Comprehensive Plan is the Short-Term Work Program, which identifies specific projects the City should undertake to effectively implement the comprehensive plan. The Southern Georgia Regional Commission assists the City of Tifton with its planning needs.
Zoning
The Zoning Division for the City of Tifton works with commercial and residential developments by implementing the City of Tifton’s Municipal Code and Comprehensive Plan. Working closely with the development community, as well as the general public, the Zoning Division verifies the zoning of properties, building setbacks, parking, signage, and landscaping.
Whether you are planning on buying or selling property, starting new construction or additions or opening a business of your own, remember to check the zoning first. The Zoning Division also assists the Historic Preservation Commission, Board of Appeals, Planning and Zoning Commission, Tree Board and Keep Tift Beautiful Board with their functions.
