Chief Douglas M. "Buddy" Dowdy, Jr. is originally from Berrien County, GA. He attended grade school at Enigma Elementary and graduated from Berrien County High School in 1981. He is single and has two sons.

Chief Dowdy began his career with the Tifton Police Department as a patrol officer in 1982. He transferred to the criminal investigations division 1984. He has also worked in training/public relations division and internal affairs. He was promoted to Captain in 1995 and served as a shift supervisor for 10 years. He was promoted to Field Operations Commander in 2005.  Chief Dowdy has served as Chief of Police since October of 2011.
