The Finance Department's primary role is to advise the City Council and the City Manager on the financial status of the City. This department also manages the day-to-day fiscal transactions of the City government on behalf of the City Council and its citizens.

Other responsibilities of the Finance Department include:

  • Maintaining the City's financial records
  • Working with the City's external auditors as they audit the financial records of the City each year
  • Preparation and distribution of financial reports
  • Development of internal control measures
  • Development of the City's annual operating and capital budgets
  • Management of the annual operating and capital budgets throughout the year
  • Management of automated financial systems
  • Overview of the City's retirement plans
  • Timely and accurate payment of vendors including debt payments
  • Timely and accurate processing of payroll and payroll reports
  • Management of the insurance coverage for the City
  • Fixed asset management
  • Bank statement reconciliation
  • Investment of the City's excess cash

The City's fiscal year begins on July 1 and ends on June 30.
