City Appoints Steve Hyman as Police Chief

After accepting applications and conducting interviews for the Chief position, City Manager Pete Pyrzenski appoints Steve Hyman as Police Chief for the City of Tifton.

Hyman has over 36 years of experience in law enforcement and has spent each of those years at the Tifton Police Department.  Hyman was first employed with the department in 1983 as a Patrol Officer and has moved up the ranks during that time.  He has held numerous positions with the department and was currently serving as Captain, upon the recent retirement of Chief Buddy Dowdy.

Hyman currently serves as Chairman of the Georgia Peace Officer Standard & Training Council and has served on many volunteer boards within the community.  Hyman’s commitment of service to our community is exceptional and his extensive knowledge, experience, and leadership qualities make him a great fit for the position of Chief.

Pyrzenski commented, “Steve is fully capable of taking our Police Department to the next level.  His deep knowledge of the department and our community puts him at a strong advantage to make a positive difference throughout Tifton and those who we serve on a daily basis”. “It is a new day for the Tifton Police Department and I am excited to work with Chief Hyman in his new role”.

After receiving the news of his appointment, Chief Hyman stated, “ I want to thank everyone for their support and confidence.  I will continue to work hard for our community and our officers.”
