Arrest made in Alazia Johnson murder case
TIFTON, GEORGIA – October 11, 2020, Chief Steve Hyman of the Tifton Police Department held a press conference today with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to announce the arrest of 18-year-old Semaj Moss of Tifton for the murder of Alazia Johnson. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation secured warrants on and arrest Moss, who has been charged with Malice Murder, Felony Murder, and Aggravated Assault.
At approximately 7:20 am on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, Tifton police officers responded to Peterson Apartments, where a 9-year-old was found stabbed to death. Tifton Police Chief Steve Hyman requested the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to lead the investigation. GBI special agents and Tifton Police Department detectives worked around the clock over the last few days gathering facts and information which led to the arrest.
Chief Hyman said, “The thoughts and prayers of the entire Police Department and the City of Tifton are with the family of Alazia Johnson. We are so appreciative of our community’s outpouring of support of the family from countless people reaching out with tips, businesses putting up rewards, and so much more. I can’t thank the Georgia Bureau of Investigation special agents and our investigators enough for their hard work on this case. I also want to thanks the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.”
Hyman went on to say, “I know everyone still has many questions they would like answered, but since this is an ongoing investigation, we will not be taking questions concerning the specifics of the case.
