On Thursday, October 22, 2020, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs held an awards ceremony in the Tifton City Hall Council Chambers. Area communities came together to celebrate each other and their achievements. The City of Tifton received a $750,000 Community Development Block Grant which will go toward the construction of a Youth Center in the Matt Wilson neighborhood of Tifton.

The City of Tifton was also re-designated by the DCA as a PlanFirst city. The PlanFirst distinction recognizes excellence in community planning and rewards communities that clearly demonstrate a pattern of success implementing their Local Comprehensive Plan. To apply for PlanFirst, communities are required to address four primary program criteria focused on having a proven record of plan implementation success: goals, leadership, community participation and implementation. The designation is for three years – beginning January 1, 2021 – and enables these communities to take advantage of various incentives that include public recognition, eligibility for specified grant opportunities, and certain reduced interest loans.
